| Canon Announces New Network Camera with Built-In Server
|
|
Canon today announced the launch in Japan of a new compact-size network camera
(available in two models), comprising a communication camera with a built-in
camera server, permitting the transmission of live images over the Internet or
LAN (Local Area Network): the Canon Network Camera VB-C10, and the inverted
ceiling-mount model Canon Network Camera VB-C10R. The company also introduced
its new monitor viewing software that permits the simultaneous viewing of up to
16 different locations: the Canon WebView Livescope MV Ver. 2.0.
Canon
Network Camera VB-C10 and VB-C10R The Canon Network Camera VB-C10 and VB-C10R
combine in one compact unit the communication camera and camera server,
permitting users to establish a monitoring environment simply by connecting the
power cord and Ethernet cable.
The new network camera permits the sender
to control the image quality and capture rate so as to optimize the settings for
the network environment. Utilizing Motion-JPEG data compression, the ideal
capture rate for moving images can be designated from 0.1 frames per second to a
maximum of 30 frames per second. The unit also offers a selection of five image
settings for optimal image-quality performance.
The new camera's
internalized server offers compatibility with TCP/IP and HTTP protocols for
Internet-based networks, and with Ethernet (100Mbps/10Mbps auto switching) for
LAN connections. Phone-line and ADSL linkups are also possible with the use of a
router.
Using the Internet standard, image recipients can easily control
with a Web browser the image display and camera functions, including pan, tilt
and zoom, creating the feeling of being on location. The image sender is also
able to impose operating limits by restricting camera angles and available zoom
settings. Also, the system enables pre-registered panoramas to be used for
realistic image-based setting of camera angles and zoom controls, as well as the
easy registering of handy presets, such as camera position and
field-of-view.
A Canon 16x optical zoom lens, the highest zoom ratio in
its class, makes possible a horizontal field of view from 3 degrees to 47.5
degrees, enabling wide-range image capture. The pan function of the VB-C10
enables 100 degrees horizontal movement in either direction for a combined range
of movement of 200 degrees while the tilt function permits an upward tilt of up
to 90 degrees and a downward tilt of up to 30 degrees. The VB-C10R's pan
function offers 170 degrees horizontal movement in either direction, and the
tilt function allows an upward tilt of 10 degrees and a downward tilt of 90
degrees. Both models achieve a maximum pan speed of 90 degrees per second, and a
maximum tilt speed of 70 degrees per second.
Canon WebView Livescope MV
Ver. 2.0 WebView Livescope MV Ver. 2.0, enables advanced monitoring
applications, including the control of multiple cameras via a dedicated screen
interface, the simultaneous viewing of up to 16 locations using multiple
monitoring, and searches of image data stored on the camera
server.
Ideally suited to building relatively large monitoring
environments, the new software comprises WebView Livescope MV Manager, which
permits the easy creation of various monitoring screens, and WebView Livescope
MV Station, for the monitoring of camera images from multiple locations. MV
Manager enables users to easily create the monitoring screen they want,
eliminating the difficulties commonly associated with producing a homepage as
well as the need for any special technical knowledge. By simply answering
questions posed by MV Manager's Screen Maker Wizard, users are able to select
from a wide assortment of screen templates to create the layout best suited to
their server, number of cameras, and specific purpose. MV Station is then used
with the monitoring screen to make possible the monitoring of multiple-location
camera images and total remote camera-function control.
Canon will also
make available a lower-priced abridged version-WebView Livescope MV Ver. 2.0 LE
(Limited Edition)-that is ideally suited to creating small-scale monitoring
environments. Offering the same advanced camera-control interface and
remote-control functionality as WebView Livescope MV Ver. 2.0, the LE version
enables up to a maximum of four locations to be displayed on the monitoring
screen at any one time.
