Linksys, a division of Cisco Systems, has announced immediate availability of the Linksys Wireless-G Pan/Tilt/Zoom (PTZ) Internet Camera with Audio aka the WVC200.

This PTZ Internet Camera can send live video and audio through the Internet to be seen and heard through a Web browser in any part of the world. Besides, it does not require an attached PC, and contains its own IP address, so customers (small businesses) can easily connect it to an existing Ethernet or Wireless network.

The camera comes with a LCD screen on the front, which displays the IP address so multiple cameras can be managed.

WVC200 images can either be password protected or left open for everyone to see. With support for Dynamic DNS, by remembering a URL 'name', the camera can be accessed.

Camera movement and focus can be controlled remotely via the Pan/Tilt and 2X digital zoom function. At a time, up to 10 users can access the
camera. Software is included for multiple camera monitoring, and recording to a hard drive with advanced search by time and date.

The WVC200 supports advanced MPEG-4 video compression for high quality, high-frame rate, 640 x 480 video stream; as also MJPEG compression for good quality video at high bandwidth rates. Some of the video features include: Infrared (IR) cut filter for viewing images in low or no light environments; ability to take and save snapshots of the image in JPEG format; and ability to schedule snapshots and send to FTP server.

Linksys' new PTZ camera incorporates advanced features such as: a Security mode wherein when the camera detects motion, it starts recording video and audio feed, and at the same time sends an email alert to the office, a pager, or a cell phone; ability to send up to 3 email alerts including a short video clip as email attachment; and Wireless Local Area Network features like WEP and WPA encryption.

Sanjeev Gupta, Regional Sales Director for Asia at Linksys, said, "We've designed a camera that provides small businesses the tool they need to monitor their office during businesses hours, or while they are away. The camera can be accessed over the Internet, enabling the office to be remotely monitored."

The camera specifications are:
CMOS Sensor with Glass Lens
Dual - Codec MPEG-4 or MJPEG selectable compression
Ability to capture video and audio (with built-in Microphone) to an external Hard Drive
Built-in Web Server for remote access with on-screen users
Support for UPnP for easy discovery on the network
Support for DDNS services
Support for up to 10 simultaneous users
Software included for monitoring and recording up to 9 cameras simultaneously
Ability to send email alerts to up to 3 addresses
LCD Screen on Camera Display

Available immediately through Linksys' channel partners across the country, the new Internet Camera comes for an estimated street price of Rs 19,900.

To overcome the problem of new IP addresses being assigned from time to time, Linksys has introduced the SoloLink DDNS service, which keeps track of the IP address of the WVC200, even when it changes, with an easy to remember Web address the customer gets to select. Upon purchase of the WVC200, customers stand to get a free 90-day trial of the SoloLink service. The price of this service starts at approximately Rs 920 for a one-year subscription.
