WDR camera models with 420 TVL resolution

WDR camera models with 420 TVL resolution and IR cameras are mainstream products in Taiwan's CCTV industry in 2006. In 2007, makers said that the most promising products are IP-based, wireless and speed dome cameras, and those with resolution of 480 TVL or 520 TVL. IP-based application can be incorporated with other handheld devices like PDAs or smart phones for real-time surveillance through video recording.

According to interviewed companies, almost all Taiwan makers use CCD sensor solutions. Most models are equipped with 1/4in CCD sensors, though many makers are now shifting to 1/3in ones.

EverFocus Electronics Corp. product manager Rich Huang said the company's products are mainly equipped with 1/3in Sony CCD Exview sensors. He added that EverFocus' cameras feature 1/3in Sony sensors to achieve better visual quality. R&D directions of EverFocus in 2006 are on the development of low-light, high-resolution and waterproof models, and models supporting day-and-night mode. In 2007, focus will be on IPbased, IR and 802.11g wireless models.

Designing high-end models and new solutions helps Taiwan makers to survive. Yoko Technology Corp., for instance, puts R&D emphasis on high-end models with auto-focus, OSD, IR and waterproof functions, as well as new applications in automotive use. In 2007, the company's new products will also feature wide dynamic, motion detection and privacy masking features.

ACTi Corp. focuses on high-end IP-based models. Company sales director Chenyu Liu said the replacement of traditional CCTV cameras by IP-based CCTV cameras can boost market growth. He said a 100-percent growth is expected in 2007 over 2006. The company plans to release 802.11a/g Wi-Fi-enabled models in Q1 2007. This type of cameras would be the future mainstream products, forecast ACTi.

Eastel Taiwan Inc. focuses on speed dome models. The company is now working on RoHS implementation and product development of high-speed dome cameras. Company president Johnny Chen said Eastel is working on high-speed, auto-tracking and smart-operated models. Its R&D directions in 2007 are toward IP-based models that feature Wi-Fi or 3G standards.

Convergence is also one major trend, either with wireless technology, handheld devices, PC interfaces or car applications.
