Designed primarily for remote monitoring of a fixed area within a home or
office, the Linksys Wireless B WVC11B Internet Video Camera does not require a
PC for connectivity. Because it contains its own Web server, you can connect the
camera directly to a wired Ethernet network or a wireless 802.11b network. The
camera offers convenient features, such as a Security Mode, which sends an email
message with a short video when the camera detects motion, and you can view
video from a remote location using a service Linksys offers.
The camera
creates MPEG-4 (Moving Picture Experts Group-4) video with 320 x 240 resolution.
It comes with a desktop stand and can be mounted on a wall. The camera offers
manual focus and manual direction adjustment controls, and it features
motion-detection capabilities.
The included Viewer & Recorder
utility software lets you schedule video recording so the camera periodically
saves video to a file, if you so desire. The utility can also play and manage
recorded video from a computer on your network.
To view video from a
computer outside your network, you must first open a port on the network router.
For security, you can create password-protected accounts to limit access. To
access the camera remotely, Linksys includes a free 90-day trial subscription to
its SoloLink DDNS Service. The service lets you access the camera via the Web by
typing a simple URL. An annual subscription for the service is $19.99.
Minimum system requirements for the WVC11B camera include a PC with a
550MHz processor, 64MB of memory, Internet Explorer 5.5, a high-speed cable/DSL
(Digital Subscriber Line) connection, CD-ROM drive, Windows Media Player 7,
wired/wireless network adapter with TCP/IP (Transmission Control
Protocol/Internet Protocol) enabled, and Windows 98SE/Me/2000/XP.
Linksys ships the camera with a power adapter, Ethernet network cable,
desktop stand, software CD, and documentation, and it includes a one-year
warranty
